For school districts

Every classroom, portable and gym, on one screen

Your campuses already run Pelican thermostats. Zonefold reads them and shows which rooms ran hot, what is running right now, and which unit needs a technician first. It puts a modeled cost on after-hours, weekend and empty-room runtime, on one page your business office can check. It never changes a setting.

  • Read-only
  • No new hardware
  • Nothing installed on your network
  • Imports every 15 minutes

For your business office

Make the case with figures they can check

Zonefold's Savings page gives one figure to quote: the modeled runtime cost in hours worth reviewing, over up to the last six weeks, with its dates and the share of thermostat-days Zonefold read completely. Days it did not read are left out, never counted as zero.

  • Four kinds of hours, each counted once: weekday runtime outside 06:00–17:00 (an assumed window, not your bell schedule), weekends, rooms used part of the day and rooms that look empty all school day. Each names its rooms and the change to consider in Pelican.
  • A one-page report to print or save as a PDF, with a short summary to paste into an email to your business office.
  • The evidence as a CSV: one row per thermostat and kind of hour, with the hours, runtime, modeled cost and rate.
  • Labeled plainly. Runtime is Measured from Pelican's counters; the cost is Modeled with your site's rate. A 40 to 80% scenario is shown as an assumption, never as a saving.

The playbook Make the case to your business office walks through it in under two minutes.

The one-page report as printed for Northview Schools: the dates and coverage, the headline of about 14.8 thousand dollars of modeled runtime cost in hours worth reviewing, the 40 to 80% scenario labeled Assumption, a table of the four kinds of hours with rooms, measured runtime, modeled cost and the action to consider, the top five rooms, weekend runtime over the last 12 months on its own line, what is not priced and why, the assumptions, and a summary to paste into an email.

The questions districts ask

What facilities teams want to know, and where Zonefold answers it

Which classrooms were too hot this week?

Zones versus setpoint gives every room a tile, building by building, portables included. The thermal wall replays the week hour by hour, with the outdoor temperature underneath.

Which unit should the technician visit first?

Portfolio names one unit to look at first. Its incident carries the evidence: each episode, how long it lasted and how far the room ran off setpoint.

Assign it with a note, and the technician gets an email with a link.

Which classrooms sit empty during school hours?

Room use reads the CO₂ sensor in each thermostat that has one: no new sensors. A classroom in use climbs well above outdoor air; one that stays below 500 ppm through school hours very likely had nobody in it.

It screens up to the last 30 school days, leaves likely no-school days out, and shows results from 10. It names rooms that look empty all school day or are used part of it, their runtime while empty and its modeled cost, and a schedule to consider in Pelican. No people are counted or tracked.

Is anything running in an empty building?

Running now shows what every thermostat is doing, by campus and building: cooling, heating, fan only or off, with vacation as Pelican reports it.

Zonefold doesn't know your school calendar, so it shows what is running, not whether it should be. Savings and Room use point to the hours worth a second look.

Is this a broken unit or a lost connection?

The Network tab shows each Pelican gateway, which devices are unreachable now, and when several dropped together. The Alarm log keeps Pelican's alarms after Pelican clears them.

What does after-hours and weekend runtime cost?

Savings adds up weekday runtime outside 06:00–17:00, weekend runtime and Room use's empty hours, and models their cost with your site's electricity rate.

It is labeled Modeled, with its dates and coverage. It is not a meter, a utility bill or a saving: some of that runtime may be needed.

How do we give a contractor one building?

Delegate a campus, a building or a single device to the contractor's company, with an end date. Every change is in the audit log, and you can revoke it at any time.

Can we hear about problems without signing in?

Opt in to the daily summary email. Once a day, and only when there's something new, it lists new and reopened incidents, ones that closed by themselves, and sites whose imports are late.

Seen on a real campus

195 thermostats, 10 buildings, 6 gateways

Every screen on this site comes from Pelican's public demo site, a California school, with one week of readings from October 4 to 11, 2026. Savings and Room use need weeks of history, so the screenshots repeat that week's real days over the weeks around it, up to October 23, 2026. In them it is renamed Northview Schools and Lincoln Campus.

For your IT team

What IT will ask, answered

Zonefold connects to Pelican's cloud, not your network, and only reads. The full details are in the security overview.

Read the security overview

  • Read-only Pelican user. Your Pelican admin creates it; read access is enough. The password is encrypted, with keys held by a separate service.
  • Roles to the room. District, campus, building or a single device, for staff and for contractors.
  • Isolation in the database with row-level security, and an append-only, tamper-evident audit log.
  • Multi-factor checks before sensitive changes.
  • Data in the United States. One week of detailed readings by default; incidents, alarms and outage history are kept.

Plainly

What Zonefold doesn't do yet

  • It doesn't know your school calendar, bell schedule or facility rentals. After-hours runtime uses an assumed 06:00–17:00 window, and Room use infers no-school days from CO₂.
  • It doesn't meter energy or import utility bills; cost figures are modeled from runtime.
  • It doesn't verify savings after a change yet.
  • It doesn't change thermostats or run demand response.
  • It works with Pelican thermostats only, and Room use needs thermostats with CO₂ sensors.

A pilot, step by step

One campus, your team, your decision

Pilots are free while we validate the product.

  1. Tell us about your district

How many campuses, and roughly how many Pelican thermostats.

  2. Create a Pelican user

Your Pelican admin adds a user for Zonefold with read access.

  3. Connect one campus

Read-only. A small site imports within minutes, then every 15 minutes.

  4. Review it together

We walk through the findings with facilities, and IT if they like, including the Savings report once the days are read. You decide whether it's useful.
